June 6 – June 18
So, what have I been up to?
Hmmm.
Flew to Tirana June 1. I think the passengers might have overpowered the attendants and physically thrown me out of the plane if I hadn’t worn a mask the whole flight – congested and coughing the whole way from a cold/sinus infection I picked up in Greece. The descent was the worst – I was practically deaf by the time we landed.
No problem; out and about – it’s just a cold, after all. I was slowly getting better, and then…. I wasn’t. I was feeling worse… I was exhausted… and the congestion and coughing got worse. Then I twisted my foot and hurt my arch while out for a big walk; ugh. OK… stay home and rest for a few days to heal the cold and the foot. Good.
Except my cold wasn’t getting better; and the cough was crackly and I was wheezy. I decided to go to Dr. and get checked out. I emailed a well-reviewed clinic and got an appointment for the next day! I met with the doc and she did a very thorough exam. She and another (younger, in- training?) doctor poked and prodded, as per usual, and listened to my lungs for what seemed like forever (it was probably a minute or so).
Community Acquired Pneumonia.
The doc reassured me and said not to worry, it was not very serious and would likely respond well to rest, fluids and antibiotics (if it was a bacterial-based infection). I happened to have a prescription for the exact antibiotic she wanted to prescribe, so I was good to go! 2,000 Lek for the doctor visit (about $20) and I walked back home.

Spent a lot of time looking at the views from my balcony while I was sick.

OK…. after a total of 13 days of isolation, lots of sleep and a Z-pack of antibiotics, I have recovered, thankfully, and am feeling pretty good.
So, that’s what I’ve been doing for most of the first 3 weeks of my Albanian adventure – are you impressed or what?! Ha ha ha ha…..
