Tirana Architecture

The National Museum of History at Skanberbeg Square. The mural is called “The Albanians” and is meant to represent figures from Albania’s history.

I’ve been struck by the uniqueness of many of the high-rise buildings here in Tirana, both completed and under construction. Granted, I haven’t yet been to many other large cities in Europe so far, but the new construction here in Tirana will certainly get your attention! Here is just a small sampling of the buildings that have caught my eye…..

I ran across this brightly colored tower on my walk last week. It is just north of one of the entrances to the Grand Park of Tirana. I couldn’t find a name on Google, and the street view image is pre-construction, so I don’t know if this is offices or residences. I think the vine-covered apartment building to the left is also eye-catching!
I got a surprise after taking this photo……

As I was entering the park I decided to turn around and see what it looked like from a different angle:
Hello!!!

Giant Jenga, anyone?!

This tower is being constructed adjacent to Skanderbeg Square (main square in Tirana.

A little more traditional, but colorful! Not quite sure what the blue one will look like when it’s done….

Your guess is as good as mine!

Interesting gold geometric lace pattern covers the outside of this cubic building. Just a couple blocks from Skanderbeg Square.

This really just a sample. I’ve seen alot of other non “traditional” office and apartment buildings here and there are many more under construction.
